Jasper – 14 miles from Big Canoe
Things to do in Jasper include visiting our favorite taco shop LC Taco Bar (the Birra Birra tacos are to die for). There are a few restaurants on Main Street as well as Pendley Creek Brewery Company.
Fainting Goat Winery and Sharp Mountain Vineyards are out in the country and very relaxing. You can enjoy the scenery or take a hike and Eagles Rest Park. Lew Newton park has a calming green space with a walking trail.
Are you ready to treasure hunt? Then grab your sneakers and head over to Mountainside Antique Mall.
Ball Ground – 17 miles from Big Canoe
Ball Ground has the BEST burgers at the Burger Bus. An antique bus turned into a diner with fresh burgers and crispy fries. There is also a German butcher shop Frankfurt Doner and Meats there with a great selection of meats to take back to Bear Paw Cabin and grill (can you tell I love food?).
Rock Solid Brewing company is right on Main Street.
Gibbs Gardens is absolutely stunning. Set on the sprawling estate of Jim Gibbs, these 220 acres comprise 16 gardens in various styles. Open seasonally.

Ellijay – 27 miles from Big Canoe
Ellijay is one of our favorite towns. You can walk the town square and get a bite to eat on the rooftop of The Roof restaurant which has great food. Canteberry Cafe has the best soups and salads (get the Cantaberry Club). Grab a coffee or Tea at Das Kaffehaus. Cornerstone Cafe is a quaint spot for breakfast.
They have the cutest toy store right as you pull into town on the right called the Gum Drop toy shop.
There are a few Antique shops you can search through next to Imbali Day Spa. We love getting massages at this tiny spa, they have great a great, well trained staff.
Cartecay Winery also has a tasting room right in the town square so you can do a wine tasting right in town.
As for the country, you can tube in the summers down the Cartecay river which is a blast, or pick apples in the fall at R & A Orchards or Reece’s Orchards. Reece’s has a new Cidery that opened and it is dog friendly. Make sure to get a fried apple pie at Reece’s.
Ott Winery and Buckley Winery are very close to each other and the views are beautiful. You can also take a family hike at Tumbling Waters trail.
