5) Connect with Nature – Being outdoors allows us to connect with nature in ways we often don’t get when we’re cooped up indoors all day long. Going on a hike helps us appreciate the beauty around us which can be incredibly therapeutic after a long day at work or school. Plus it gives us time away from technology so that we can just relax and recharge our batteries! the Choctaw Trail offers 1.4 miles of rolling, mixed-surface trails, great for a trail run or nature walk. The trail meanders through the Choctaw neighborhood along the banks of Disharoon Creek. Hike the Choctaw Trail to views of Big Canoe’s golf greens through the trees, and drop along a spur trail to a moss-covered creek bed and the remains of a historic bridge.
6) History & Culture – As part of the Cherokee Nation before Europeans arrived in North America, there is plenty of history surrounding this area that makes it worth exploring further. There are old homesteads scattered across the landscape that give insights into how life was lived centuries ago as well as historical markers pointing out important events from long ago. Explore gorgeous, spilling waterfalls, shady creek valleys and sunny forests filled with green ferns and wildflowers. In addition to the scenic beauty, the Nature Valley trails offer a lesson in Big Canoe’s history, visiting a historic log cabin, a creek powered water wheel, and even an old moonshine still.

7) Activities for Kids – Kids love being able to explore the outdoors and there are plenty of activities for them at Big Canoe too! Depending on their age they can go fishing or swimming in one of the many lakes or check out one of several playgrounds located near picnic areas throughout the park.
8) Plant Life – If flowers aren’t your thing then perhaps trees interest you? Or maybe vines? Well fortunately there’s plenty to see here no matter what type of plant life catches your eye! From towering pine trees to vibrant ferns growing along creek banks; wherever you look there will be something new waiting for discovery! You may even spot some rare plants that aren’t found anywhere else in Georgia…it’s always worth keeping an eye out because who knows what treasures lay hidden amongst all that foliage?!
